Xmind is a mind-mapping tool that turns a topic, file, or conversation into a structured map you can outline, present, or track as tasks.
The homepage puts the split this way: keep the thinking in the chat, and keep the clarity on the map. You bring an unfinished input. Xmind holds it as topics on a canvas and can show the same nodes as a linear outline.
Core capabilities
Draft a map from a rough input
Xmind Agent accepts a sentence, a file, a link, or a conversation and drafts a structured map. One homepage example asks it to connect scattered information, pull out the key ideas, and suggest directions worth exploring. You can also add and rearrange topics yourself. The features page says an AI mind map is generated from a topic or keywords, then edited.
Attach a schedule to the map
On Premium, a map can carry more than one sheet, a Gantt chart, and topics converted into tasks with assignees. Those tasks can be exported to Calendar or Excel. The features page describes planning with working days and printing or exporting the chart. Free and Pro do not list this project layer.
Show the same material as an outline or slides
Outliner lists every node in a line, so you can edit from the keyboard and drag a branch into a new place. Pitch turns the map into slides: up to 5 on Free, and unlimited on Pro. Pro also exports PNG, SVG, PDF, Markdown, and Office files without a watermark.
The features page lists mind maps, timelines, matrices, and Zones as structures. A topic can hold a label, a note, a marker, a web link, a topic link, an attachment, a local image, a sticker, an audio note, or a LaTeX equation.
How to use it
- Open the web app, or install the desktop build. The download page lists macOS, Windows, and Linux installers, plus iOS, iPadOS, Android, visionOS, and HarmonyOS apps.
- Start from an idea, a file, a link, or a map you already have. Use Xmind Agent for a first structure, or create topics manually.
- Switch to Outliner when a linear pass is faster, or change the structure when a timeline or matrix fits better than a radial map.
- Publish a link on Free, or move to Pro or Premium when you need watermark-free files, unlimited slides, or the project tools.
Real-time collaboration and a view you can follow are listed on Premium, with 30 days of version history. Free keeps 3 days and caps manually created online maps at 10.
Who it suits
Xmind is for people who need to see how ideas connect before they write a long page: a student breaking down a reading, a consultant structuring a problem, or a project lead who wants tasks to stay on the original map. The site names marketers, software engineers, consultants, students, teachers, and project managers among the roles it addresses.
It is a weaker fit when the deliverable is a styled long document or a shared wiki. A notes app spends its interface on pages; Xmind spends it on the map. Before a team rollout, check the online-map cap and whether the AI credits are a one-time sign-up grant or a monthly allowance.
Pricing, access and limits
The individual pricing page lists Free at US $0, Pro at US $4.92 per month, and Premium at US $8.25 per month. A yearly option is advertised as up to 50% off. The page text does not print a second, undiscounted monthly number, so confirm the billing toggle before paying.
Free includes up to 10 manually created online maps, basic themes and stickers, 3-day version history, link publishing, up to 5 Pitch slides, and 50 AI credits at sign-up. Pro raises the online-map cap to 50, adds links, numbering, attachments, custom themes, watermark-free PNG, SVG, PDF, Markdown, and Office export, unlimited Pitch slides, and the same 50 sign-up credits. Premium adds unlimited collaborative maps, real-time collaboration, 30-day history, unlimited sheets, Gantt charts, assignable tasks, Calendar or Excel task export, and 500 AI credits per month. Those credits cover text-to-mind-map, summaries of long text, files, or links, idea expansion, map reorganization, and breaking a project into tasks.
Business, Enterprise, and Education plans are separate pages. This listing does not copy their prices. The features page says you can start with no credit card.
